The Euro-African Network for Advancing ESD Leadership in Teacher Education is a flagship initiative of the SSATL-ESD project. It establishes an active collaborative platform dedicated to fostering knowledge exchange, professional connections, and policy dialogues on teacher leadership for Education for Sustainable Development (ESD).
The network aims to grow into a critical mass of teacher trainers and educators capable of driving meaningful progress toward SDG 4.7 and beyond. It will complement and support existing global frameworks, including the ESD for 2030 network and the Greening Education Partnership.
Bringing together stakeholders from NGOs, community organisations, schools, teacher training institutions, and international bodies, the network unites those committed to ensuring that learners acquire the knowledge and skills needed to promote peace, sustainable development, and global citizenship.
We aim to:
Connect practitioners to each other and provide free access to best practice materials and resources to support the sustainability learning work they were doing across the African continent.
The network operates across diverse levels and types of teacher education, including Early Childhood Development (ECD), Technical and Vocational Education and Training (TVET), and undergraduate and postgraduate programmes. This multi-level engagement ensures that ESD leadership is embedded throughout the teacher education ecosystem, from pre-service training to ongoing professional development.
