This September we are happy to welcome Zintle Songqwaru at Leuphana University for the prestigious The World Academy of Sciences and German Research Foundation (TWAS-DFG) research fellowship!
Zintle is a senior lecturer at the Education Faculty in the Secondary and Post School Department at Rhodes University, South Africa. She brings extensive experience working with both pre- and in-service teachers, having been involved in major national and regional initiatives such as Fundisa for Change and the SADC Sustainability Starts with Teachers programme. Furthermore, she is a valued colleague and collaborator with us on the Sub-Saharan Africa Teacher Leadership for ESD project.
During her time in Lüneburg, Zintle hopes to further strengthen the research partnership between Rhodes University and Leuphana, while also exploring how Education for Sustainable Development is integrated here. Looking ahead to her stay, she shares:
“I want to learn more about how Leuphana is embedding ESD in its teacher education courses and to spend time with my peers at SETRI institute. I am also looking forward to the research collaboration on ESD Change projects.”
From our side, the UNESCO Chair team is looking forward to deepening our collaboration on teacher leadership for ESD, and, of course, showing Zintle around Lüneburg and the beautiful Lüneburger Heide!

About the Sub-Saharan Africa Teacher Leadership for ESD Project
This project is led by Leuphana University and co-funded by the European Commission. The project makes an important contribution to SDG 4.7 through building capacity in teacher trainers on ESD leadership.
